Your 2019 Business Resolutions, Part 2

In part 1 of this series we looked at different ways to use the data in your CRM to evaluate your current business and make changes to create a more profitable organization. This week we’ll look forward – what can you do to really bring your business into 2019? Here are five ideas:

  1. Experiment with something new.

Have conversations with your clients, suppliers and employees, listen to their suggestions, and take some risks. This may take you out of your comfort zone, but it’s easier to swallow planned uncertainty! So try a new product, experiment with some different marketing techniques, and be ready to cut your losses – or jump on board and expand to take advantage of what works.

  2. Go back to last Part 1’s Resolution #4 (Review your current client list and fire some of them)

Figure out the profile of your ideal client, what some call your “avatar.” These are all characteristics you should be able to track in your CRM. What is it about your product or service that appeals to your ideal client? Combine this information with your target client profile, and you can gear your marketing to your own special niche audience.

  3. Don’t neglect any aspects of marketing available to you – traditional, email, telemarketing, and social media.

Usually each one has a place in your marketing plan, depending on the “heat” of the prospect. Don’t be timid, try a new marketing approach, especially if it makes you stretch. Refine your marketing as you find things that work. Figure out which style of marketing works best for different clients – and then market to them in the way they prefer.

  4. Referrals, referrals, referrals.

Use data from your CRM to see who referred clients to you last year. Gather testimonials to use in your marketing. Look for clients that have relationships with the same vendors you use – and then take that non-competitive vendor to lunch and see if you can’t scratch each other’s backs. Nurture these “centers of influence” and you may find a golden path to many new clients.

  5. Shift your mindset.

For resolutions to occur and goals to be met, everything must start with an internal shift. It’s the beginning of a new year, a fresh start, and you can meet your goals and challenges when your mind is free from self-doubt, worry or fear. Remember this Jim Rohn quote: “You are what you think about.” So think about success!
