Transferring Act! Licenses Between Machines

Moving your Act! database to a new server?  New computer for an existing Act! user?  Are you the Do It Yourself type?  If so, you might want to add one extra step to your process - deactivate the old machine's license.

Act! has always limited the amount of machines that software licenses can be installed on.  However, recent changes to the licensing process requires you to deactivate licenses on old machines.

How do I deactivate a license in Act!?

It's simple!

For user machines:

  1. Open Act! on the original machine (before uninstall)
  2. Go to Help > Register Act!
  3. Select Deactivate your Act! License

For servers (or machines hosting the main database):

  1. Open Act! on the original machine (before uninstall)
  2. Create backup of your database (File>Backup>Database)
  3. Go to Help > Register Act!
  4. Select Deactivate your Act! License
  5. Restore your backup from step 2 on your new server

What if my computer is disabled?

If the old computer or server is no longer functional for you to access Act! and deactivate the license, you should contact Act! Support to ask them to manually deactivate the license.  Contact Act! Support at (866) 873-2006.
