Critical Act! Update: Your Act! Software is at Risk

Attention all Act! users: there is a very important update we must convey from Act! about your software:

We have recently been informed that an embedded third-party software component of Act! that facilitates licensing services is being discontinued by the manufacturer at the end of this year. As of January 1, 2019, certain common actions you may take that interact with the licensing component will cause Act! to fail and you may not be able to access your database or perform certain functions within Act!. Examples of these common actions include: Attempting to install/activate Act! on new hardware, re-activating Act!, and modifying your user count. For an expanded list of actions, click here.

Who is affected?

All Act! users on Act! versions 2005 (v7) through Act! v20.1 are affected. This includes Act! Pro and Premium users as well as those who are on a current Act! subscription.

What should you do?

To ensure uninterrupted access to Act! beginning January 1, 2019, you must take action by December 31, 2018. You can either upgrade to the current version of Act! (v21) by December 31, 2018 or, if you’re on a supported version (v19, v20) you can apply a yet to be released update for your build, which we anticipate being available soon. We will provide updates here when that is available.

For Act! v18 users, this is what Act! is telling us:

Act! v18 will lose support effective November 30, 2018. However, a one-time update will be made available for those on v18 that seeks to address this specific issue in January 2019. Act! cannot and does not make any representations as to how long this one-time update will provide the functionality of Act! that users expect. Please note that this decision to provide you with the update in this instance shall not be precedent, or require Act! to provide, neither now nor in the future, any fixes for additional issues that may or will arise after the date of obsolescence as specified in the Act! Support Obsolescence Policy.

Act! v17 through Act! 2005 (v7) users are on a version that is no longer supported by Act!. To ensure uninterrupted access to your Act! in 2019, you must upgrade to the current version (v21) by December 31, 2018. Swiftpage assumes no responsibility for issues encountered with Act! if the required upgrade is not taken.

We understand that you may not have planned an upgrade before the end of the year.  To help soften this impact, Swiftpage already has scheduled discounts for the balance of the calendar year for all Act! subscriptions. Please contact us (see below) for more information on upgrading.

Why is this happening?

Please know that Swiftpage, the makers of Act!, did not have any control over this decision. Rather, it is something they were forced into by the owner of the licensing service who has opted to discontinue that service with minimal notice. Swiftpage is making every effort possible to provide immediate solutions for this unexpected issue and they have been working extensively with their legal team to ensure that they are meeting all required obligations and ensuring that all customers will have uninterrupted access to Act!.

How to Proceed Before January 1, 2019?

To better assist you with the best path forward for your Act! deployment, please do the following:

  1. Open Act! and navigate to the Help menu > About Act!
  2. Take a screenshot of the About Act! screen and email that to us (that will allow us to verify your Act! version against our records to better advise you.)
  3. We will then be in touch with recommended options for you.

Please take action as soon as possible so we can ensure that you’re on the right path towards uninterrupted access to Act! beginning January 1, 2019.

On behalf of Swiftpage, we apologize for any inconvenience this causes. We will do everything in our power to provide you with up-to-date information, recommendations and assistance to ensure that your Act! system continues to function and meet your needs beginning in January 2019. If you have any questions please call (866-880-4228) or email us
