Previously on this blog we discussed that ACT! 2010 is not compatible with Office 2010. While still not fully supported with ACT! 2010, Office 2010 users do have some options (see next paragraph). This is good news for ACT! 2010 users but even better news is that Sage ACT! 2011 fully supports MS Office 2010 32-bit edition. For more information on Sage ACT! 2011, check out http://www.aspen-tech.com/SageACT2011.html.
This new ACT! Knowledge Base Article (ACT! by Sage Compatibility With MS Office 2010) details the options available to ACT! 2010 users and how to set it up. Basically, here’s what you can and can’t do when you have ACT! 2010 and Office 2010:
Can…
- Send email from ACT! using Outlook 2010
- Record email history to ACT!
- “Quick Attach” messages to ACT!
- “Attach to ACT! Contacts”
Can’t…
- Integrate the ACT! Calendar with Outlook 2010
- Export to Excel 2010
- Use Word 2010 as your Word Processor
UGH!
Carolyn, I agree completely. We would love to see Sage release a patch for ACT! 2010 to add this compatibility. We’ll let you know if that happens.
We are currently still on XP but we are about to replace 5 laptops. Will we have any problem with Office 2007? Or Windows 7 64bit for that matter? (When we replace the laptops I’m going to update everyone to ACT! 2010 SP1)
That won’t be a problem.
Not sure it works with ACT! 2011. The export to excel button is grey.
Bill, was ACT! 2011 installed before Office 2010 was installed? What view in ACT! are you trying to use the Export to Excel button? Contact List, Group List, Opportunity List, Company List and Task List should all work. Other views aren’t intended for Export to Excel.
Has a patch been provided yet? Or have they mentioned if they will provide one?
Reid, Larry Ritter of Sage did announce that Sage would not be creating a patch to provided Office 2010 functionality in ACT! 2010. If you intend to stay with ACT! 2010, then the best option is what we pointed out in the blog to regain limited email integration. Otherwise, to get full integration with Office 2010, you will need to upgrade to ACT! 2011.
Derek, that is an excellent point. Sage’s decision was controversial and didn’t please a lot of users.
